  • Requests are analyzed on a first-come, first-served basis; 
  • Please allow 10 working days for a response;
  • A delay of up to 60 days is required to obtain your permit;
  • That the analysis of the application, as well as the 60-day delay, begins only when the application submitted is declared valid and complete by the municipal officer; 
  • That an application received without the necessary documents and/or information will be declared incomplete and refused.

*For lots with a surface area of less than 4,000 m², the maximum floor area of ALL accessory buildings is limited to 75 m².

** Please note that a plan signed and sealed by an engineer is required if the foundation of the accessory building includes a monolithic slab of more than 55 square metres.

What you need to know before obtaining this permit

Please refer to  chapiter 4 of zoning by-law 1215-22.

  • The cost of the permit is $85. The cost of a permit renewal is set at 50% of the initial cost.
  • Work must begin within six (6) months of issuance of the building permit.
  • For lots with a surface area of 4,000 m² or more, the maximum floor area of all accessory buildings is limited to 95 m².
  • For lots with a surface area of less than 4,000 m², the maximum floor area of all accessory buildings is limited to 75 m².
  • For lots with a surface area of less than 4,000 m², the surface area of accessory buildings is also limited by the maximum surface area authorized for all constructions.
  • If natural environments are present, a professional firm must survey them and then identify the delimitation of the natural high-water line on the lot. This, in turn, will be surveyed by the land surveyor and recorded on the site plan.

    • Location of existing and proposed buildings and the distances between buildings and lot lines
    • Lot dimensions and area
    • Location of septic systems and well
    • Location of trees and wooded areas
    • Location of any watercourses, wetlands, etc. 
  • Scale construction drawings of accessory building
  • Geotechnical study (if required)
  • Characterization study by ABQ member biologist (if required)
