Blue green algae (cyanobacteria) at Mountains Lake — Hollow Glen sector
District 6
A blue‑green algae (cyanobacteria) bloom has been observed at Mountains Lake, in the Hollow Glen sector. As a precaution, avoid all contact with the lake water until further notice.
What to avoid
Swimming and any activity involving direct, prolonged contact with the water.
Drinking lake water, or using it for cooking, preparing drinks or washing food. Boiling does not destroy the toxins and can concentrate them.
Letting pets enter the water or drink from it. Dogs are especially at risk: they swallow water while swimming and lick their coat afterwards. Rinse them with clean water if they have been in the lake.
If you are out on the water
Stay away from areas where the water looks cloudy, greenish or covered in scum.
Wash your hands with clean water after handling any equipment that has been in the lake.
If you come into contact with the water
Rinse with clean water. If symptoms appear (skin or eye irritation, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever), contact Info‑Santé at 811. For a pet, contact your veterinarian without delay.
Please note that residents who take water directly from the lake should contact the Environmental Department. If you get your drinking water from an artesian well or a surface well, you can continue using it as usual.
The Municipality is monitoring the situation and will provide an update as soon as new information is available. This advisory remains in effect until further notice.
